Overview of the Opportunity

Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics invites applications for 5–8 Doctoral Researcher positions within its doctoral programmes in Business Studies and Economics.

The positions are intended for candidates pursuing doctoral studies and completing their doctoral dissertation. Selected researchers will join the University of Jyväskylä Graduate School and JSBE’s international research community.

Research Fields

Doctoral dissertations may be supervised in the following areas:

• Accounting and Corporate Finance

• Corporate Communication

• Corporate Environmental Management

• Management and Leadership

• Marketing

• Strategy and Entrepreneurship

• Economics

• Finance

Key Responsibilities

Doctoral Researchers will primarily:

• Conduct research leading to a doctoral dissertation.

• Complete doctoral studies and required coursework.

• Participate in teaching assistance.

• Contribute to related academic tasks.

• Develop independent research expertise.

• Participate in the broader JSBE research environment.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should:

• Hold, or be close to completing, a suitable Master’s degree.

• Have a strong command of English.

• Demonstrate academic and research potential.

• Be capable of conducting high-quality independent research.

• Have a feasible research plan supporting timely completion of the doctoral degree.

The selected candidate must obtain postgraduate study rights at the University of Jyväskylä through a separate application process after selection.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

• Academic and research competence.

• Quality and relevance of previous studies.

• Research experience and academic achievements.

• Potential to conduct high-quality independent research.

• Progress in doctoral research, where applicable.

• Quality and feasibility of the research plan.

• Theoretical and methodological choices.

• Realistic timetable for completing the degree.

• Connection of the proposed research to JSBE’s research areas.

• Credibility of the applicant’s funding plan.

No interviews are planned. The final selection will be made by the Dean based on the Faculty Research Committee’s assessment.

Salary & Employment Conditions

The starting salary is approximately:

EUR 2,500 gross per month

Approximately:

INR 2.65 lakh gross per month

Salary is determined under the Finnish University Salary System at demand levels 2–4 for teaching and research staff.

As the doctoral work progresses, salary may be revised according to the applicable collective agreement.

Additional employment conditions include:

• Holiday bonus

• 4–6 weeks of annual leave

• Relocation support for international recruits

• Finnish employment benefits and healthcare arrangements

• 6-month trial period at the start of employment
