📋 Overview of Role

Universität Innsbruck is seeking a University Assistant – Doctoral Position in Foreign Language Education, with a research focus on foreign language acquisition in the school context. The position combines doctoral research, independent teaching, cross-linguistic teaching within the Languages Unit, professional development, and administrative responsibilities. The appointment is for 4 years, initially at 20 hours per week, increasing to 30 hours after submission of the dissertation agreement.

🎯 Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

• Conduct a PhD dissertation in foreign language teaching and learning, focusing on foreign language acquisition in school contexts.

• Undertake independent research, primarily related to the doctoral dissertation.

• Conduct independent teaching in the relevant field.

• Contribute to cross-linguistic teaching within the Languages Unit of the Department of Subject-Specific Education.

• Participate in professional training and continuing education.

• Undertake administrative and academic organizational duties.

🎓 Qualifications & Candidate Profile

• Required Education: Completed teacher education degree (Diploma/Master's) in a modern language by the start of employment; French is preferred.

• Academic Background: Diploma or Master's thesis preferably in Language Education / Foreign Language Education; applicants should attach the thesis as a PDF.

• Dissertation Proposal: Written reflections on the proposed dissertation topic, maximum 3 pages.

• Language Skills: French, Italian, or Spanish at C1 CEFR level; English at C2 CEFR; German at C1 CEFR if German is not the applicant's first language.

• Research Skills: Knowledge of research approaches and research methods in foreign language education is desirable.

• Professional Skills: Creative problem-solving ability, teamwork, and strong pedagogical and didactic skills.
