The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT Hyderabad) invites applications for 02 Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) positions in the CARBON Lab, Department of Chemical Engineering. The positions are associated with advanced research projects on tropical batteries, low-grade coal conversion, Li-ion batteries, electrode materials, and electrochemical technologies.

Position Overview

Project Details

Project 1

“Development and Demonstration of Materials and Fabrication Technologies for Tropical Batteries”

The project focuses on the development of advanced materials and fabrication technologies for next-generation tropical battery systems.

Project 2

“Conversion of Low-Grade Coal into Graphitic Carbon for Li-ion Batteries; Pouch Cell Demonstration”

This project involves converting low-grade coal into graphitic carbon suitable for Li-ion battery applications and demonstrating the developed materials through pouch-cell fabrication.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in any of the following disciplines:

• Chemical Engineering

• Material Science

• Chemistry

• Physics

Candidates with research backgrounds relevant to batteries, electrochemistry, electrode materials, carbon materials, or energy-storage technologies are particularly suitable for these positions.

Desirable Expertise

For Project 1

Candidates should preferably have strong expertise in:

• Li-S battery chemistry

• Battery working mechanisms

• Electrochemical testing

• Battery materials research

For Project 2

Candidates should preferably have strong expertise in:

• Li-ion battery chemistry

• Coal processing

• Electrochemical testing

• Carbon-based electrode materials

Desirable Skills

Preference will be given to candidates possessing experience in:

• Designing electrode materials

• Conducting battery experiments

• Material characterization

• Electrochemical studies

• Battery working mechanisms

• Electrode design

• Coin-cell fabrication

• Pouch-cell fabrication

• Testing and evaluation of battery cells

• Material upscaling

• Translational research

Prior experience or a strong interest in translational battery research will be an added advantage.

Fellowship & HRA

The selected Post-Doctoral Fellows will receive a monthly fellowship of:

• INR 58,000, or

• INR 61,000, or

• INR 67,000

depending on post-Ph.D. experience, along with:

30% HRA as per DST norms

Duration of Appointment

The appointment will initially be for:

1 Year

The tenure may be extended further based on the candidate's performance and project requirements.

The positions are time-bound and associated with the respective research projects.
