The National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) has invited applications for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) under a sponsored research project in the Department of Food Process Engineering.

Eligible candidates with qualifications in Food Process Engineering, Food Technology, Agricultural Engineering, Post-Harvest Engineering and related disciplines can apply for this research opportunity.

Position Overview

Project Title

Improved Technology and Process for Parboiled Rice and Selected Extruded Products

The project involves research and development activities related to improving technologies and processes for parboiled rice and selected extruded products.

The selected candidate will work on areas including:

• Paddy soaking

• Paddy parboiling

• Rice milling

• Ageing of rice

• Extrusion processing

• Development and improvement of food-processing technologies

Project Closing Date: 24 March 2028

Essential Qualification

Candidates should possess:

• B.Tech with M.Tech in any of the following disciplines:

  • Food Process Engineering

  • Food Engineering and Technology

  • Food Technology

  • Processing and Food Engineering

  • Agricultural Process Engineering

  • Post Harvest Engineering

  • Agricultural Engineering

Minimum Academic Requirement:

• Minimum CGPA of 6.5/10.0

OR

• Minimum 60% aggregate marks

Desired Experience

Preference may be given to candidates having prior research experience in:

• Operation and handling of twin-screw extruders

• Rice milling

• Paddy parboiling equipment

• Machine design

• CAD software

• Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning modelling

• Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation

Candidates who have qualified GATE, NET or another relevant national-level examination will have an additional advantage.

Salary / Fellowship

The selected Junior Research Fellow will receive:

• INR 37,000 per month

• HRA: As applicable

The appointment will be on a temporary / contractual basis and will be co-terminus with the sponsored research project.

Tenure of Appointment

• Initial / advertised tenure: 01 Year 06 Months

• The engagement is temporary and contractual.

• The appointment will be linked to the duration and requirements of the sponsored project.
