About the Fellowship

The MeitY-Visvesvaraya Post-Doctoral Fellowship for Electronics & IT is offered under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT – Phase II.

NIT Karnataka has announced one postdoctoral fellowship position for the academic year 2026–27.

The fellowship is intended to support advanced research in relevant areas of Electronics and Information Technology, with preference given to research proposals addressing industry-specific problems.

The appointment is full-time, temporary and non-transferable within India.

Eligible Departments

The fellowship is available in the following departments at NIT Karnataka:

1. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)

2. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)

3. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE)

4. Information Technology (IT)

5. Mathematical and Computational Sciences (MACS)

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a research area relevant to the proposed postdoctoral work.

Essential Qualifications and Eligibility

1. Educational Qualification

• Candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in a relevant research area from a recognized university.

• Applicants should have secured first class, in terms of grades or equivalent academic performance, at all preceding academic levels.

• A good academic record throughout is required.

2. Ph.D. Completion Requirement

• Applicants must have completed their Ph.D. within the past five years, calculated as on the last date for submitting the application to the host institution.

3. Nationality

• Applicants must be Indian citizens.

4. Employment Status

• Candidates currently holding regular employment are not eligible.

• Researchers or scientists working in temporary positions at academic or research institutions may be considered.

• Such candidates must relinquish their existing temporary positions if selected for the fellowship.

5. Host Institution Restriction

• Applicants must not have completed their Ph.D. at the same institution where the postdoctoral fellowship is proposed to be awarded.

6. Age Limit

• The upper age limit is 40 years on the date of submission of the application to the eligible host institution.

Desirable Research Profile

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Have active linkages with industry.

• Propose research directed towards industry-specific problems.

• Demonstrate a strong academic and research background in relevant Electronics and IT disciplines.

The specific research topics for the postdoctoral programme are provided in Annexure 1 of the fellowship notification.

Fellowship and Financial Benefits

Selected candidates will receive financial support under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT.

Monthly Fellowship

The selected postdoctoral fellow will receive INR 1,08,393 per month.

The fellowship amount will be transferred directly to the awardee's bank account after institutional enrolment and verification.

Research Contingency

An annual contingency grant of INR 1 lakh is available to support eligible research-related expenses.

Travel Support

Travel support of up to INR 2.10 lakh is available under limited heads, subject to the scheme's terms and conditions and reimbursement requirements.

Fellowship Duration

• Duration: 12 months.

• Nature: Full-time.

• Appointment: Temporary and non-transferable.

• Location: NIT Karnataka, Surathkal, India.

The fellowship will be governed by the applicable conditions of the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme.
