Position Overview

About the Opportunity

The National Institute of Technology Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur) invites applications from highly motivated and eligible candidates for one Research Associate position under the research project titled:

“Development of Sustainable Textiles from Himalayan Nettle”

The project is funded under the National Handloom Development Programme, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

The selected candidate will primarily work at COER University, Roorkee and will be required to visit NIT Hamirpur once every two months to discuss the progress of the project.

Essential Qualification

Candidates should fulfil either of the following criteria:

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in:

  • Biotechnology

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Material Science

  • Textile Engineering

OR

• M.Tech. with 3 years of research, teaching, design and development experience

• At least one research paper in a Science Citation Indexed (SCI) journal

Desirable Qualification

Preference may be given to candidates having experience in:

• Fibre processing

• Fibre characterization

• Field surveys

Experience Required

Candidates applying through the M.Tech. qualification route should have:

3 years of research, teaching, design and development experience

Relevant practical experience in textile processing, fibre testing, material characterization, machinery development, and field-based research will be useful for the position.

Key Responsibilities

The selected Research Associate will be responsible for:

• Data collection and field surveys

• Fibre testing and spinning

• Design and fabrication of machinery

• Characterization of fibres

• Blending of fibres

• Supporting other research activities associated with the project

Remuneration

The selected Research Associate will receive:

INR 58,000 per month + HRA

HRA will be provided as per applicable rules.

Appointment Duration

The Research Associate position will be offered for:

1 Year only

The overall project duration is 15 months.
