The National Institute of Technology Goa (NIT Goa) invites applications from distinguished professors, practitioners and professional experts for Professor of Practice and Associate Professor of Practice positions across Engineering, Science, Management and Humanities disciplines. The appointments are full-time, contractual and tenure-based.

Position Overview

NIT Goa issued a corrigendum revising the application deadlines to 26 September 2026 for email submissions and 01 October 2026 for hard-copy applications.

Departments / Disciplines

NIT Goa is seeking Professor of Practice and Associate Professor of Practice candidates in the following areas:

Engineering

• Computer Science and Engineering

• Electronics and Communication Engineering

• Electrical Engineering

• Civil Engineering

• Mechanical Engineering

Science / Humanities & Social Sciences

• Mathematics

• Physics

• Chemistry

• Economics

The positions are intended to support research, teaching and learning, professional training and other academic/research activities.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Professor of Practice

Candidates should have:

• Minimum 15 years of managerial or professional experience.

• Experience in a senior management/professional position such as:

  • CEO

  • CTO

  • Vice President

  • Director

  • Comparable senior professional position

• At least a Master's degree in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities or a related field.

Associate Professor of Practice

Candidates should have:

• Minimum 10 years of managerial or professional experience.

• Relevant senior-level professional/managerial experience.

• At least a Master's degree in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities or a related field.

A Ph.D. is desirable but not essential. Candidates without a Ph.D. must demonstrate substantial domain knowledge acquired through deep professional experience.

Desirable Experience

Preference may be given to professionals with experience or achievements in areas such as:

• Product design and development

• Project R&D

• Patented products

• Development of new applications, materials or processes

• Guiding internships or student projects

• Teaching at Centrally Funded Institutions

• Delivering full UG/PG-level courses

• Experience at world-class universities or highly rated research institutions

• Experience in national laboratories

• Fellowship of prestigious academies

• Research publications in SCI/WoS-indexed journals

• Granted patents

• Technology transfer

• Collaboration with funding agencies and research laboratories

• Consultancy resulting in revenue generation

• Start-up or unicorn ecosystem experience.

Eligibility for Candidates Without Ph.D.

Candidates without a Ph.D. may still be considered where they can demonstrate significant domain expertise through achievements such as:

• Patent filings or granted patents

• Leadership in large-scale industrial projects

• Development of new technologies or products successfully deployed in the market

• Recognition by national or international professional bodies

NIT Goa states that senior management experience and practical innovation may receive higher weightage than conventional academic research for these practice-oriented positions.

Role & Responsibilities

The selected Professor/Associate Professor of Practice may be expected to:

• Design and develop new practice-oriented courses.

• Teach and undertake instructional responsibilities prescribed by the Institute.

• Advise students on projects and connect them with relevant external stakeholders.

• Mentor students in innovation and entrepreneurship projects.

• Participate in the development of new academic programmes and centres.

• Develop Continuing Education Programmes.

• Conduct outreach and extension activities.

• Strengthen industry-academia collaboration.

• Identify teaching and research opportunities with industry and government.

• Contribute to academic and administrative responsibilities assigned by NIT Goa.

Salary & Tenure

The appointment may be extended for further periods after a rigorous review of performance and depending on institutional requirements.

Leave and other benefits will be governed by NIT Goa norms.

Age Limit

The upper age limit is 70 years.

NIT Goa also permits exceptional professionals who may not fulfil every prescribed criterion but have made significant contributions to teaching or their professional field to apply.

Nature of Appointment

• These are full-time positions.

• Selected candidates must physically move to and reside at NIT Goa throughout the appointment.

• The appointments are non-regular and tenure-based practitioner positions.

• A person appointed as Professor of Practice may also be permitted to retain a lien on their industry position, subject to applicable conditions.

Selection Process

• Applications will be scrutinized by a Standing Committee.

• Merely satisfying the minimum qualification and experience requirements does not guarantee selection.

• Relevant specialization, research contributions, consultancy, sponsored projects, patents, new-product development and knowledge of recent technological advances may be considered during selection.

• Industry professionals with experience in providing internships and exposure to teaching or research guidance at reputed institutions may receive preference.

• Professional experience certificates

• Supporting evidence of industry/managerial experience

• Research publication details, where applicable

• Patent / technology-transfer details, where applicable

• Consultancy / project details

• Other supporting documents relevant to professional achievements

• NOC, where applicable
