Sustainable Mentoring in Education: Advancing Research, Theory, and Practice

Journal: International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education
Publisher: Emerald Publishing
Submission Opens: 1 September 2026
Submission Deadline: 5 January 2027

The International Journal of Mentoring and Coaching in Education invites submissions for a Special Issue dedicated to advancing empirical, conceptual, theoretical, and practice-based research on sustainable mentoring in education and related professional contexts.

About the Special Issue

Mentoring plays an important role in supporting learning, professional development, career progression, wellbeing, and retention. However, much of the existing literature focuses on short-term outcomes, leaving important questions about how mentoring benefits can be sustained over time.

This Special Issue places sustainability at the centre of mentoring research and practice, exploring how mentoring can generate lasting benefits for individuals, organisations, educational institutions, and professional communities.

The issue particularly welcomes interdisciplinary perspectives, longitudinal and comparative research, and studies connecting theory with practical approaches to designing effective and sustainable mentoring systems.

Research from healthcare, business, and other professional settings may also be considered where findings provide transferable insights for educational contexts.

  • Inclusive and equitable mentoring practices
