The International Journal of Emerging Markets invites submissions for a Special Issue exploring entrepreneurship, international business, and management in the Balkan region, with a particular focus on transitional economies, institutional change, internationalisation, digital transformation, and sustainable economic development.
About the Special Issue
The Balkans provide a distinctive setting for management and entrepreneurship research because of their diverse institutional environments, transition from socialist economic systems, continuing European integration, cross-border business relationships, and rapidly evolving markets. Variations in formal institutions, access to finance and talent, governance systems, and informal practices create valuable opportunities to test and extend established theories.
The Special Issue seeks research grounded in the economic, institutional, cultural, and social diversity of the Balkan region. Contributions should demonstrate how region-specific phenomena can challenge conventional perspectives and generate insights with relevance beyond the Balkans, particularly for theories of entrepreneurial action, institutional change, internationalisation, and organizational strategy.
