Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) invites applications from Indian nationals for one Research Associate-I (PDF) position under a sponsored research project in the Department of Hydrology. The project focuses on assessing the impacts of climate change on water resources in the Sone River basin.

Position Overview

About the Project

The research project titled “Comprehensive Hydrological Assessment of Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources in Sone River Basin” aims to quantify the impacts of climate change on meteorological processes and hydrology of the Sone River basin.

The selected Research Associate will contribute to hydrological and climate-data analysis, modelling, field investigations, and research dissemination.

Essential Qualification

Candidates should possess:

• Ph.D. in Hydrology / Water Resources Engineering / Civil Engineering / Agricultural Engineering

• Engineering background at the Master’s level (M.Tech. or M.E.)

Required Knowledge & Skills

The candidate is expected to have:

• Knowledge of large-data handling, including satellite data, hydro-meteorological data, and climate data

• Working knowledge of GIS and multispectral remote sensing data processing and analysis

• Sound knowledge of hydrological models such as SWAT / VIC / WEAP

• Experience handling big data, APIs, Google Earth Engine, and machine-learning algorithms

• Strong programming skills in R / Python / MATLAB

• Ability to undertake extensive fieldwork for hydro-meteorological data collection and field surveys

• Experience in writing papers, patents, and technical reports

• At least one published journal paper on a relevant topic in a Q1 journal

Emoluments

INR 58,000 per month + HRA, as applicable

Appointment Duration

The appointment will continue up to completion of the project, tentatively January 2028.

Preference will be given to SC/ST candidates with equal qualifications and experience.

No TA/DA will be paid for attending the walk-in interview.
