Position Overview

Project Title

“Power Management and Quality Enhancement of Traction Substation in Indian Railways: A Power Conditioning and Energy Storage Approach”

The project focuses on the integration of energy storage systems, power conditioning technologies, and power quality enhancement solutions for railway traction substations.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates should possess a Postgraduate degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or an area relevant to Electrical Engineering.

Candidates should have been selected through one of the prescribed national-level processes, including:

• CSIR-UGC NET, including Lectureship / Assistant Professorship

• GATE

• National-level examinations conducted by Central Government departments, agencies, or institutions such as:

  • DST

  • DBT

  • DAE

  • DOS

  • DRDO

  • MHRD

  • ICAR

  • ICMR

  • IITs

  • IISc

  • IISERs

  • Other recognized institutions

Candidates should also have First Class or equivalent in all academic qualifications from the undergraduate degree onwards.

Desirable Qualification

Preference will be given to candidates having:

• Postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a relevant field

• Knowledge of Power Systems

• Knowledge of Power Electronics

• Familiarity with energy storage and power conditioning technologies

Job Description

The selected JRF will work on research involving:

• Integration of energy storage systems at railway substations

• Simulation studies involving railway power systems

• Railway traction load analysis

• Unbalanced power system studies

• Energy storage system modelling

• Power quality analysis

• Power conditioning systems

• Technical analysis using relevant simulation software

Software / Technical Skills

The project may involve tools such as:

• MATLAB / Simulink

• DIgSILENT PowerFactory

• Other power-system modelling and simulation software

The selected candidate will also contribute to:

• Coding and simulation

• Research analysis

• Technical report preparation

• Research paper publication

• Presentations

• Project coordination

Project Tenure

The sanctioned project duration is 36 months.

The selected candidate will initially be appointed as a JRF for 24 months and may subsequently continue as an SRF, subject to:

• Satisfactory performance

• Applicable eligibility conditions

• Availability of sanctioned project funds

Fellowship

INR 37,000 per month

HRA: Not applicable.

Age Limit

Maximum Age: 35 years

Age relaxation will be applicable as per prescribed norms.
