About the Opportunity

IIT Gandhinagar is recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow for a research project focusing on the modelling of fibre-reinforced polymer composite manufacturing processes.

The research involves predicting process-induced residual stresses and deformation in composite materials.

The selected candidate will work under the guidance of Prof. Harini Subramaniam, Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Essential Qualifications

Candidates must possess:

• A PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Materials or Chemical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, or an allied area.

• Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis are also eligible to apply.

• A strong background in solid mechanics or continuum mechanics.

• Experience with finite element analysis, demonstrated through doctoral research.

Academic Requirement: A minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade from graduation onwards, and 55% or equivalent grade in Class 10 and Class 12.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with relevant research experience in:

• Research involving polymers or fibre-reinforced polymer composites, including constitutive modelling.

• Finite element software such as Abaqus/ANSYS/COMSOL.

• Programming and computational tools, including UMAT/VUMAT.

• Hands-on thermal and mechanical characterisation, including DSC, DMA and related testing methods.

• Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensors.

Candidates should also demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to plan and conduct simulations and experiments independently.
