Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) invites applications for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF-GATE) position under a research project in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Position Overview

About the Opportunity

The Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Guwahati is recruiting a Junior Research Fellow (JRF-GATE) for a research project focused on developing indigenous technology for the extraction of critical minerals, including rare earth elements, from overlying strata of Northeastern coalfields.

The appointment is temporary and will run for approximately 2.5 months, up to 14 December 2026.

Essential Qualification

Candidates should meet either of the following qualification requirements:

• M.Tech in Chemical / Mechanical / Energy / Metallurgical / Material Science or relevant Engineering branches, with a GATE score.

OR

• M.Sc. in Chemistry / Physics / Biochemistry / Material Science or relevant branches, with NET/selection through National Level Examinations conducted by Central Government departments and their agencies/institutions.

Remuneration

• Recommended Pay: INR 37,000 per month

• HRA: INR 6,660 per month

• Medical: INR 1,250 per month

• Total Monthly Amount: INR 44,910

Appointment Duration

The appointment is for 2.5 months, up to 14 December 2026.
