Position Overview

About the Opportunity

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) invites applications for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position on a contract basis under the research project:

“Targeting Metabolic Dysregulations for Neuroprotection in Parkinson’s Disease”

The project is funded by Cure Parkinson’s UK and focuses on biological mechanisms associated with Parkinson’s disease and potential strategies for neuroprotection.

Essential Qualification

Candidates should possess:

• Postgraduate degree in Biological Sciences from a recognized university

• First Class in the qualifying postgraduate degree

Candidates are encouraged to enrol in the Ph.D. programme at IISER-TVM.

Meeting / clearing the applicable eligibility criteria prescribed for Ph.D. admission at IISER-TVM is highly desirable.

Desirable Qualification

Preference will be given to candidates having hands-on experience in:

• Immunohistochemistry (IHC)

• Cell culture

• Mouse work / animal studies

• Molecular biology

Preference will also be given to candidates who are keen to continue in the laboratory for a Ph.D. programme.

Experience Required

Relevant laboratory experience in the following areas is desirable:

• Cell and molecular biology

• Immunohistochemistry

• Mammalian cell culture

• Mouse models / experimental animal work

• Neurobiology-related research

Candidates should also be able to join from November 1, 2026.

Remuneration

The selected Junior Research Fellow will receive:

INR 31,000 per month + HRA

The fellowship is expected to be upgraded to SRF at the start of the 3rd year, subject to applicable project and funding norms.

Appointment Duration

The overall tenure of the position is:

3 Years

The initial appointment will be for:

6 Months

Continuation will be subject to satisfactory performance.

Age Limit

Maximum Age: 35 years
