Research Associate Recruitment 2026 at IIM Ahmedabad – Transportation & Logistics (Civil Aviation)

Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) invites applications for multiple full-time Research Associate positions for research projects related to aviation policy, operations, and management. Selected candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Debjit Roy and Prof. Sandip Chakrabarti.

Position Overview

Research Area & Role

The Research Associates will work on projects involving:

• Aviation policy

• Aviation operations

• Aviation management

• Transportation and logistics

• Economic and policy analysis

• Econometric and quantitative research

Candidates should have a strong foundation in economic theory along with in-depth knowledge of econometric methods and their application in policy contexts.

Prior academic or professional experience in the transportation/logistics domain is desirable but not mandatory.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Applicants should have:

• A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA or similar), or

• A Master's degree in Economics (MSc/MA or similar), or

• An equivalent postgraduate programme with significant coursework/concentration in data analytics.

Candidates should also have:

• Good academic performance in undergraduate and postgraduate courses relating to:

  • Statistics

  • Econometrics

  • Data Analytics

  • Similar quantitative subjects

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Ability to undertake quantitative and research-oriented work.

• A relevant writing sample, which must be submitted with the application.

Candidates who do not meet the required qualifications are advised not to apply.

Preferred Experience

• Previous Research Assistantship experience at an academic institution will be an advantage.

• Experience in transportation, logistics, or aviation-related research is desirable.

Note: Promising candidates without prior Research Assistantship experience may initially be appointed as a Research Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

Selected candidates will undertake research activities including:

• Data and information collection

• Data cleaning and processing

• Literature reviews

• Quantitative data analysis

• Drafting and editing research reports

• Project administration and related activities

• Supporting research on aviation policy, operations, and management

The Research Associates may also be required to travel within India as part of the assignment.

Duration

The position is a full-time appointment initially offered for six months.

The appointment may be extended depending on:

• Performance of the selected candidate

• Research/project requirements

• Discretion of the faculty supervisor

Salary

Compensation will be governed by IIM Ahmedabad's policy and will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.
