Overview of Role

Georgia State University’s Perimeter College invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor of English positions.

These are teaching-focused appointments in which 80% of the workload is instruction, while scholarly or creative activity and service account for 10% each. Faculty are expected to teach 27–32 credit hours per academic year and maintain an active campus presence.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

• Teach undergraduate English courses.

• Teach first-year composition.

• Deliver 27–32 credit hours of instruction each academic year.

• Teach through:

  • In-person formats

  • Online formats

  • Blended / hybrid formats

• Participate in departmental, college, and university service.

• Maintain appropriate scholarly and/or creative activity.

• Support early undergraduate teaching and learning.

• Work effectively with students from diverse academic backgrounds.

• Collaborate with departmental colleagues.

• Maintain an appropriate campus presence.

Teaching assignments may be made across multiple Perimeter College campuses.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

Required Qualification:

• Ph.D. in the relevant teaching field completed by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with:

• Successful experience teaching developmental writing.

• Experience teaching first-year composition.

• Graduate coursework in:

  • Rhetoric and Composition

  • Writing Pedagogy

• College-level teaching experience.

• At least one year of college teaching experience, including teaching-assistant experience.

• Experience teaching online.

• Experience using distance-learning platforms.

• Interest or experience in high-impact educational practices.

• Experience in scholarship of teaching and learning.

• Interest in college-to-career educational initiatives.

• Scholarly activity in English and/or teaching and learning.
