Overview of Role

Florida A&M University invites applications for a full-time Instructor (Assistant Professor) position.

The successful candidate will teach Creative Writing, literature/writing courses, and Composition, including online instruction, while maintaining an active research and publication agenda and contributing to departmental and university service.

Key Responsibilities & Teaching Scope

• Teach courses in Creative Writing.

• Teach additional Literature and Writing courses.

• Teach Composition courses.

• Deliver instruction effectively in face-to-face and online formats.

• Design syllabi and course materials.

• Conduct assigned classes and complete teaching responsibilities.

• Maintain an active research and publication agenda.

• Participate in individual and departmental grant-writing activities.

• Contribute to departmental, college, and university committees.

• Attend faculty meetings.

• Participate in university convocations and commencement ceremonies.

• Contribute to ongoing assessment activities and initiatives.

• Prepare routine reports and correspondence.

• Communicate effectively with students and faculty.

Qualifications & Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualification:

• MFA in Creative Writing

Candidates should also demonstrate:

• Ability to teach effectively in assigned disciplinary areas.

• Strong writing skills.

• Knowledge of online pedagogy.

• Knowledge of academic assessment.

• Ability to design syllabi and conduct courses effectively.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to interpret relevant academic and administrative documents.

Research & Academic Expectations

The position includes expectations to:

• Maintain an active research agenda.

• Maintain an active publication agenda.

• Participate in grant-writing activities.

• Contribute to departmental and university academic initiatives.

• Engage in faculty service and assessment activities.
