Overview of the Fellowship

The Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship supports outstanding early-career researchers undertaking postdoctoral research in Israel.

The programme connects fellows with academics and researchers at eligible Israeli academic institutions and is open across disciplines.

Applicants must have an academic sponsor who is a faculty member at an eligible Israeli academic institution at the time of application.

Eligibility

Applicants may apply if they:

• Received their Ph.D. no earlier than November 1, 2023

• Received their Ph.D. in a country other than Israel

• Are currently completing a Ph.D. and will successfully defend the dissertation by June 1, 2027

Applicants must not have received an undergraduate or graduate academic degree from an Israeli institution.

Former visiting and/or exchange students in Israel remain eligible.

Applicants who began a postdoctoral or academic position in Israel before September 1, 2026 are not eligible.

Academic Sponsor Requirement

At the time of application, candidates must have an:

Academic sponsor who is a faculty member at an eligible Israeli academic institution.

Applicants should therefore identify and secure an appropriate host academic before submitting the fellowship application.

Fellowship Amount

The fellowship provides:

Basic Stipend

• ILS 168,000 per academic year

• Approximately INR 52.05 lakh annually

Research Expenses & Research-Related Travel

• ILS 20,000 annually

• Approximately INR 6.20 lakh annually

Approximate Total Annual Support

• ILS 188,000

• Approximately INR 58.25 lakh annually

Fellowship Duration

The fellowship is initially awarded for:

2 years

Renewal for a third year may be considered favourably through a competitive evaluation process.

Start Date

The standard fellowship start date is:

October 2027

However, successful candidates may begin:

• As early as June 1, 2027

• As late as February 1, 2028
