Essential Qualifications

Candidates should satisfy the eligibility requirements prescribed by AMU/UGC for appointment as Assistant Professor.

Academic Qualification

• A Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent grade wherever a grading system is followed.

• The Master’s degree should be in Urdu or a concerned/relevant/allied subject from:

  • An Indian University, or

  • An equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.

NET / SLET / SET Requirement

In addition to the above qualification, candidates should have:

• Cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or CSIR;

OR

• Cleared a similar UGC-accredited examination such as SLET/SET;

OR

• Been awarded a Ph.D. degree in accordance with the applicable UGC Regulations and fulfil the prescribed conditions for exemption from NET/SLET/SET.

Ph.D. Exemption from NET/SLET/SET

Candidates holding a Ph.D. may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET requirements subject to fulfilment of applicable UGC regulations.

For candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to 11 July 2009, exemption is subject to conditions prescribed in the advertisement, including requirements relating to:

• Award of Ph.D. degree in regular mode

• Evaluation of the Ph.D. thesis by at least two external examiners

• Conduct of an open Ph.D. viva voce

• Publication of research papers arising from the Ph.D. work

• Other conditions prescribed under applicable UGC/University regulations

Salary

The selected candidate will receive a fixed salary, with the initial pay being equivalent to the pay admissible to a newly appointed Assistant Professor at the University.

Duration of Appointment

The appointment is purely temporary and will continue:

• Until the end of Academic Session 2026–27, or

• Until the General Selection Committee (GSC) is held,
