Advances in Medical Education and Practice invites submissions for an Article Collection exploring the theory, integration, and practical application of transformative learning in medical and health professions education.
About the Article Collection
Medical education is increasingly expected to prepare healthcare professionals for complex systems shaped by demographic change, rising costs, health disparities, ethical challenges, and rapidly evolving professional environments. Traditional educational approaches may not fully develop the adaptability, critical consciousness, and change-oriented competencies required to address these challenges.
Transformative learning offers an approach centred on critical reflection, questioning assumptions, perspective transformation, agency, and learning through experience. This Collection seeks scholarship examining how transformative learning can help healthcare professionals navigate uncertainty, work across disciplinary boundaries, challenge hidden curricula and established power structures, promote equity, and become active agents of change within healthcare systems.
