Overview of the Opportunity

The Department of Management Studies at the Aalto University School of Business invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Sustainability in Business.

The position is situated within the Organizations and Management discipline and provides an opportunity for an early-career researcher to develop an independent research agenda while contributing to Aalto University’s Sustainability in Business research community.

Research Focus

The Sustainability in Business research group works on areas including:

• Organising for sustainability

• Collaborative innovation for sustainability

• Circular economy

• Governance and institutions for sustainability

• Sustainability transitions

• Sustainable business models

• Societal and organisational responses to sustainability challenges

The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue high-quality research aimed at publication in leading international journals.

Key Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Researcher will:

• Develop and pursue an independent research agenda.

• Conduct high-quality research in sustainable business.

• Target publications in leading international academic journals.

• Participate in the Sustainability in Business research community.

• Collaborate with researchers and external stakeholders where appropriate.

• Teach approximately one course per year or make an equivalent teaching contribution.

• Supervise Master’s theses.

• Potentially participate in Ph.D. supervision.

• Engage with the wider interdisciplinary sustainability research environment at Aalto University.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Applicants should:

• Have completed a Ph.D. within the last 4 years, or

• Be close to completing a Ph.D.

Relevant disciplines may include:

• Management Studies

• Social Sciences

• Organization Studies

• Sustainability

• Related fields

Applicants from other relevant disciplines may also be considered.

Required Profile

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Ability to conduct internationally publishable research.

• Ability to teach effectively.

• Strong interest in sustainable business research.

• Fluent English-language skills.

Finnish and other language skills are considered an advantage.

Teaching & Supervision

The position carries a relatively low teaching load.

Responsibilities include:

• Approximately one course per year, or equivalent contribution

• Master’s thesis supervision

• Potential involvement in Ph.D. supervision

Residency Requirement

Postdoctoral researchers are expected to be resident in Finland for the duration of the appointment and actively participate in the Department’s academic community.

Salary & Benefits

The expected starting salary is:

EUR 4,500 – EUR 4,600 per month

Approximately:

INR 4.78 lakh – INR 4.88 lakh per month

The salary is stated before taxes and depends on qualifications and experience.
